The Golf Swing
Golf swings are broken into different categories and are based on the type of swing needed. In order to perfect a swing a golfer may hire a professional trainer. A golf swing trainer is specifically trained to break down the angles and basics of each type of swing. Despite the first swing, called the drive, golfers are free to make any kind of shot needed to complete the hole.
Golf strokes are based on which type of club is used and the angle of the needed shot. A pre-stroke is always required, followed by the actual stroke. A pre-stroke will allow a golfer to understand the amount of momentum needed, the angle, the potential movement of the ball, and if a chosen club is the correct club to choose. Pre-stokes are often made a foot or two away from the actual ball, as to not alter the ball’s position prior to the actual swing.
The actual swing chosen by a golfer will depend on where the ball has landed and how far the ball needs to travel in order to approach the hole. A pitch shot is an ordinary shot made while on the green that can move the ball between fifty to one hundred yards. A flop shot uses a loft club and is normally used for shorter distances.
Chipping is a shot used for short ranges. Certain chipping clubs are often used and are designed to move the ball away from bunkers.
Putting is the one stroke that can be most difficult. Putting is normally used to sink the ball from a short distance away into the hole. A specific amount of force is required, but too much force can result in an over-shot.
Other shots include the approach, lay-up, bunker shot, lag, fade, draw, punch, hook, slice, push, pull, shank, thin, phin, top, fat, pop-up, and whiff. Not all shots are good shots, yet all have names.
